Activities

My current academic activities combine research, international collaboration, research leadership, supervision, teaching, and academic service. Much of my work is interdisciplinary and comparative, connecting educational research with questions concerning digital technologies, artificial intelligence, inequality, and sociotechnical change.

Current research and collaboration

My current research focuses particularly on algorithmic infrastructures and educational inequality, artificial intelligence in education, and digital sociology of education. I am developing research that examines how increasingly datafied and algorithmically mediated educational environments reshape participation, learning opportunities, and educational inequality across different institutional, geographical, and cultural contexts.

I continue to collaborate internationally on comparative research concerning AI in education, technology-mediated learning, intercultural education, and rural and peripheral educational contexts. My collaborations connect researchers and educational environments across Europe, Asia, the Global South, and the Circumpolar North.

Research leadership and supervision

I supervise master's and doctoral research in areas including educational change, digital technologies and AI in education, educational inequality, intercultural and comparative education, and technology-mediated learning environments. I am particularly interested in supporting research that connects theoretically ambitious questions with meaningful educational problems and contextually sensitive empirical research.

I also contribute to the development of international research collaborations, publications, edited volumes, and new research initiatives across these areas.

Teaching and curriculum development

At the University of Helsinki, my teaching is connected particularly with Changing Education International Master's Degree Programme, research methodology, educational technologies, and contemporary transformations in education. My teaching integrates current research with critical examination of technological, social, cultural, and ethical change and supports students in developing their identities as researchers and educational change agents.

Academic and international service

My academic service includes research evaluation, editorial work, scientific publication evaluation, and participation in national and international educational networks. I serve on the Finnish Scientific Publication Forum (JUFO) panel for Education and Psychology and as Regional Editor of the American Journal of STEM Education. I also contribute to the evaluation of research proposals in Hong Kong and participate in the Finnish National Agency for Education's Network for Anti-Racist Education Network (Antirasisitnen kasvatus ja koulutus -verkosto).
